Box Office Report: ‘Patiala House’s bad response still on the way! Posted: 15 Feb 2011 02:27 AM PST
If the movie continues to remain steady at BO, it can manage to get close to Rs 25 crore mark in its first week. But this is not a good figure for any Akshay Kumar film because most of his movies get much more than Rs 25 crore approx in their first weekend. It's certain that the movie is not going to be a big hit but because of its not-so-high budget, the producers can heave a sigh of relief. They are also benefitted by Akshay's profit sharing deal and also with the rebate given by the UK government for films shot in the country. The collections of Yeh Saali Zindagi in its second weekend were average. The film has managed to hold on at theatres in spite of the release of Patiala House. The movie is likely to do a share of around Rs 5.75 crore in its lifetime run. This Friday, Priyanka Chopra is ready to jolt the BO with her 7 Khoon Maaf.
Ajay Devgan to pair up with south actress Kajal Aggarwal Posted: 15 Feb 2011 02:15 AM PST Ajay Devgan to pair up with south actress Kajal Aggarwal: There is a new Kajal in Ajay Devgan's life! Director Rohit Shetty has started working on the Hindi remake of the south film Singam with Ajay Devgan, and he has roped in the hit south actress Kajal Aggarwal to pair opposite him. What worked in Kajal's favour? She is quite a popular name down south and also she has got dates to give for the project. Initially, Rohit was keen on Anushka Shetty, who starred in the original opposite Surya. But since she was busy with other projects, Kajal was approached and she lapped the opportunity. However, this is not Kajal's first Hindi film. She was also seen in a small role in Kyun Ho Gaya Na where she played Aishwarya Rai's friend. Rohit liked her in Magadheera which is one of the biggest Telugu hits of 2010.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai sequel: Kareena or Vidya as Mandakini! Posted: 15 Feb 2011 02:08 AM PST Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai sequel: Kareena or Vidya as Mandakini!: As Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai sequel will roll soon, the hunt for the leading lady of the film, which stars Akshay Kumar in lead, is on. Top contenders likely to bag the role are Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan! The sequel will show Akshay as a matured Dawood, the role essayed by Emraan Hashmi in the first part. As Dawood was allegedly linked with Mandakini, the makers are having trouble in finding the right actress to play her part in the film opposite Akki. It's reported that Mandakini's character needs a strong actress who can emote well on celluloid. Now the speculations are rife that either Kareena or Vidya can be approached for the role. As per sources, Ekta Kapoor, the head of Balaji Motion Pictures, wants a top actress to play the lead. The production house is already working with Vidya in Dirty Picture and Kareena is quite close to Ekta and her brother Tusshar Kapoor. We would say, let the best lady win.
Canadian Rocker Bryan Adams’ Delhi concert is cancelled Posted: 15 Feb 2011 02:00 AM PST Canadian Rocker Bryan Adams' Delhi concert is cancelled: Fans of the Canadian rocker Bryan Adams in Delhi are sure to be disappointed as his concert, to be held today, has been canceled. Adams has himself, put the update on this twitter account, saying "Police have canceled the New Delhi concert tonight due to public safety...". Earler in the day Bryan was still hopleful that the concert would take place, and had tweeted saying, "I'm in New Delhi waiting to hear from the police about the concert. As far as I'm concerned the show is ON - we're 100% here for the fans". Adams was to perform at the NSIC exhibition ground in Okhla, South Delhi, but the police has denied permission for the concert. A sellout crowd of about 20,000 were expected to attend the concert. "We have denied permission for the concert because of security concerns. The police claims that the organizers of the show have sold more tickets than the capacity of the ground which can cater to only 6,000 people at a time. Moreover, complimentary passes too have been issued for VVIPs.
Ranbir Kapoor have no time to work with Deepika Padukone? Posted: 15 Feb 2011 01:52 AM PST Ranbir Kapoor have no time to work with Deepika Padukone?: Ranbir Kapoor doesn't seem to be very excited about the idea of working with his ex girlfriend Deepika Padukone. Worse, he may even be averse to the pairing. We hear that director Ayan Mukherjee, who made Wake Up Sid with Ranbir, is penning the script of another film in which the leading lady's character is that of a modern girl with traditional values. And Deepika seems to fit the bill perfectly. More than anything, Ayan has been desiring to direct Deepika. The only hitch is that Ranbir isn't interested in working with Deepika, and he made it clear to Ayan who is also his good friend. This comes as a surprise because after their break-up both Ranbir and Deepika had said that they were open to doing films together. But Ranbir's snub to Deepika may have been because he is still unhappy over her controversial remarks about him on Koffee With Karan. Ranbir's dad Rishi Kapoor, for one, was surely upset with Deepika's comments and had even expressed his displeasure. Ayan Mukherjee is still working on the script and hasn't begun the casting process yet.
Priyanka Chopra exclusive interview Posted: 15 Feb 2011 01:48 AM PST Priyanka Chopra exclusive interview: Priyanka Chopra is running late but that doesn't stop her from sharing hairstyle tips with college students or posing for photos with excited fans, while also finding the time to do interviews and shoot for promotions. The 28-year-old admits this is what her typical day is like and that she sometimes works for 20 hours a day without a break. All that hard work may be paying off as Chopra is one of Bollywood's most successful heroines today, bagging prime projects and carrying films on her own shoulders. Chopra spoke to Reuters about her new film "Saat Khoon Maaf", roles for actresses in Bollywood and why she doesn't mind male actors getting paid more in the film industry. Q: Traditionally, leading ladies in Bollywood are pretty strait-jacketed. What made you want to play a woman who marries seven times and then kills all her husbands? A: "Because I pave my own path and I don't like following rules. I don't like convention. I want my own space. It's a small space, but I'm very possessive about it." Q: Do you think roles for actresses in Bollywood are changing? A: "I hope so and I am hoping that I have something to do with it. That's what people say -- that I spearheaded it with 'Fashion' where a film with a heroine in the lead took a good opening. I'm so glad that films like 'No One Killed Jessica' did so well, because it shows that good movies are appreciated and the gender of the protagonist doesn't matter at all." Q: But no matter how well these films do, male actors do get paid a lot more than female actors do. Do you grudge that? A: "But their films also make that kind money. I don't grudge them that at all. Their films make 150 crores, 300 crores, so they deserve to get paid what they get. The day my films start making that kind of money, I will also get paid that much. I have started slowly and my films are creating a niche of their own. At least we are getting opportunities now, so we have to make the best of them and learn to accept that we are in a male-dominated society. We live in a male-dominated country, forget the film industry. So, the fact that we can create a space of our own is good enough." Q: When you are playing a woman who kills her husbands, what is the toughest part about a character that seems so negative? A: "That, at heart, she is a good girl. She's a good girl. You feel bad for her, for her life. To convey that was difficult for me. 'Saat Khoon Maaf' is not a thriller -- it's a black comedy thriller. It's not a 'Dostana' or a 'Golmaal' -- it's a sinister comedy, which is a space India is not familiar with, which is why everyone is slotting it. So you may not guffaw with laughter, but you will come out thinking 'they deserve to die'. That's the quirkiness of the film." Q: Can you think of any other contemporary actress playing this role? A: "Umm…I really can't. For me, Susanna's me. I can't imagine her as anyone else. Actually, maybe… I have absolutely no idea. You should ask Vishal (Bhardwaj) this." Q: You recently had income-tax raids at your house. Why aren't financial dealings in Bollywood transparent as yet? Have things changed since the time you came in? A: "I don't know. But yes, things have changed. We have become more corporate. But film stars do make news, we are always spoken about. We earn above a certain line of income, so it is natural that we attract attention. But there is a lot of transparency now, because you cannot be any other way."
