No smoking please, says 'pregnant' Vidya Balan! Posted: 10 Feb 2011 03:09 AM PST No smoking please, says 'pregnant' Vidya Balan!: Vidya Balan gets into the skin of the character. Demands a smoking ban on the set because she's playing a pregnant woman Vidya Balan is playing a six-month pregnant woman in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. To get into the skin of the character, she has called for a No Smoking ban on the set. While the smokers on the set might resent her call for the ban, the director is maha pleased with her dedication. Sujoy says, "She's really into the character. So much so that after a while she started freaking us out. She started behaving like an expectant mother and wouldn't let anyone smoke in front of her.. and we were like.. huh? Pregnant!? Who? So I think for Balan once she is mentally there, physical bits are baaye haath ka khel." The director might want to lookout for more clues of obsessing with the character. It might get really scary if she started eating for two, or started feeling morning sickness. |
Posted: 10 Feb 2011 03:03 AM PST 'Hum Dono' Movie Review: By Subhash K Jha - Starring Dev Anand, Sadhana, Nanda - Directed by Amarjeet: Abhi na jao chhod kar ke dil abhi bhara nahin…The film's anthemic love ballad, regarded as one of the finest love songs ever composed for Hindi cinema, rings through your heart after the lengthy film is done—and let's face it, nearly 3 hours of playing- time for a long-forgotten war saga can get tedious when you have the next chapter in the Egyptian civil-war waiting at home. Yes, Hum Dono is back. The 1961 film about two look-alike soldiers who become friends at war, is as far-fetched in plot as…say, today's Dabangg or James Cameron's Avatar. Indeed the film's old-world values of valour, integrity, loyalty, fidelity and trustworthiness seem to belong to another era, if not a completely different planet. They are rescued from fading by compter-coloured velocity. Admittedly even today Hum Dono makes a fairly engaging triangular love story with war at its backdrop. The coloured version that has come to us now leaves us with mixed feelings. Though at first one enjoys the splash of colour that is added to V Ratra's outstanding black-and-white cinematography a lot of the film's original visual intensity is lost in colorized translation. We are left wondering who decided what colour Dev Anand's shirt or Sadhana's saree was meant to be!Did the color- generating department check with the film's core team to decide the colour schemes? If not, is it ethical or even legally permissible to tamper with the film's creators' original vision? The Dolby-enhanced sound leaves no room for quibble.Jaidev's music score, considered by many aficionados to be one the 10 finest Hindi motion-picture soundtracks of all times, heals all the wounds of excessive coloured flamboyance. Whether it is Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhosle's Abhi na jao chhod kar or Lata Mangeshlar's immortal Bhajan Allah tero naam, or those two imperishable Rafi Ghazals Kabhi khud pe kabhi halaat pe rona aaya and Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya…you just can't help being swept into the sheer melody of the moment. The casually stylish way the songs are shot, the sharp close-ups being intercut with lyrical poetic long-shots, incidental but intense interludes of passion played out in the visual detailing, all carry the distinctive stamp of Vijay Anand who wrote Hum Dono. The film's direction is credited to Amarjeet who later directed Dev Anand in a film called Gambler. Ah, Dev Anand…a star beyond any definition of stardom!! He shines with meteoric melancholy in the double role of men at war with themselves, much more than for his country. The way this debonair actor enacts the solo numbers by Rafi makes you wonderif the the song came first ?Or was the song inspired by the face that conveys the numbers on screen? Sadhana (impish, coquettish) and Nanda (tremulously poignant) are lovely supplements to the Dev Anand mystique. What was he thinking when he romanced these beautiful ladies?Surely more than what Sahir Ludhianvi's love-lorn lyrics describe! They don't make stars like Dev Anand any more. They never will.Or for that matter a film so suffused in the splendour of its own cultivated grace is impossibly to come by in today's era of pelvic passion. Abhi na jaao chhod kar indeed. |

'Rockstar' actress Nargis Fakhri resembles Katrina Kaif - Pics Posted: 10 Feb 2011 02:37 AM PST 'Rockstar' actress Nargis Fakhri resembles Katrina Kaif - Pics: Speculations were rife that the beautiful Katrina Kaif feels insecure of the hot Nargis Fakhri, who gets to make her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar. We see the reason why Kat was seeing red when her new man was getting friendly with Nargis on the sets of the film. It's kind of creepy! See how closely Nargis resembles Katrina Kaif! She was never touted as the look-alike of Katrina, but in these images from Rockstar, no one can deny that she looks like the spitting image of Kat. Is that the reason why Kat was feeling insecure of Nargis? Nargis was selected to romance Ranbir in Rockstar after many fresh faces auditioned for the role. Director Imtiaz Ali was convinced about Nargis being the right gal for the film. What else is common between the two ladies besides their striking resemblance? Nargis who is from USA is half Pakistani and half Czech, and Kat, as we all know, is also half Kashmiri and half British. Abhinav directs Salman Khan's Dabangg sequel? Posted: 10 Feb 2011 02:00 AM PST Abhinav directs Salman Khan's Dabangg sequel?: Abhinav Kashyap may not have burnt his bridges with the Khan brothers after all. According to well-placed sources, the director behind 2010's monster hit is back in favour with Salman and is all set to direct the much-touted sequel to Dabangg. A source close to Salman says, "Abhinav is a good director, but the success of the film may have gone to his head. However, the fallout is a thing of the past and it will only be fitting if Abhinav directs the sequel." According to reports Kashyap rubbed a lot of people the wrong way post the success of his debut film. He demanded more than Rs 10 crore from Eros International while negotiating for a film which did not materialise for obvious reasons. Kashyap next had a meeting with PVR Pictures. There too he demanded something between Rs 15 and 18 crore. Mumbai Mirror had reported this on Oct 28, 2010. "When Salman learnt about Kashyap's pricey ways, he responded with putting him off his radar," adds the source. We broke the story of Kashyap's fallout with Salman on November 10, 2010. While it is not clear what brought about the sudden change of heart, Salman seems more favourably inclined towards the director of one of his career-defining films. "We have Kashyap's dates in place, which were finalised only last week," says the source, adding, "Both Salman and Arbaaz love Abhinav. Let's not get into what went wrong, but look forward to a killer sequel." |

Akshay Kumar Interview: It was time to change focus Posted: 09 Feb 2011 02:42 PM PST Akshay Kumar Interview: It was time to change focus: Akshay Kumar is in the mood for intense and dramatic roles and will be seen as a Sikh guy trapped in the patriarchal family system in "Patiala House". He says he accepted the offer as it was completely opposite to his real life story and also because he is keen to change his funny guy image. "It was a conscious decision to do a serious role because it's been three years since I've done something like this. The last was 'Namastey London'. I've been away from it for quite sometime now and was concentrating on comedy. So I thought of changing focus and doing something serious," Akshay told us. "While playing the character, I felt that I'm playing what real people go through in life, what circumstances they face. I'm not playing just a role, it is a culmination of the lives of common people out there," added the 43-year-old. Akshay showed his funny side in his first hit comedy "Hera Pheri", but his comedies like "Action Replayy" and "Tees Maar Khan" bombed at the box office. Set in London, "Patiala House" sees Akshay Kumar's character Gattu trapped between his dreams and his father's aspirations for him. The film has been directed by Nikhil Advani and co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Mukesh Talreja, Krishan Kumar and Akshay along with his wife Twinkle Khanna. Akshay says what attracted him to the role was that his life story was completely opposite to his character in the movie. "My father supported all my dreams. He worked double shifts so that I could train in martial arts. So this situation was completely alien to me. I grew up with love and support from my parents. So that's why it was so endearing to play a son, who forgets his dreams for his father's," he said. The film that also stars Anushka Sharma and Rishi Kapoor among others will see Akshay sharing screen with his real life mother-in-law Dimple Kapadia. The senior actress plays his mother in the movie and the actor said he had fun filming with her. "Me and my mother-in-law are quite inseparable. I have more things common with her than Twinkle. Twinkle and I are totally opposite, whereas me and Dimpleji are quite similar," said the actor. "During the entire schedule, we played cards, fooled around on youtube, she taught me sudoku (number game) and I took her to various places with my son. So it was fun. She is a fun lady," he added. This is his first film with Anushka and he said: "Anushka has a very vital role to play in the film. She is my shoulder, my brick wall and my unconditional support in the movie. She shocked me on the sets with her expertise. There is no doubt that she will go very far," he added. |
