Alas, the lassie has to wait as she can't fly abroad because of her visa.

Child within every man that's why 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji'

Child within every man that's why 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji': They say men never grow up and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar is exploring this pyche of men in a humorous way through his new romantic comedy 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' releasing Friday.

Starring Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Omi Vaidya, 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' is the slice of life movie that talks about three men and their encounters with love. Shazahn Padmasee, Shruti Haasan and debutante Shraddha Das will play their love interests respectively.

Naren Ahuja (Ajay) is in his thirties and is going through divorce. While nursing his broken heart following a failed marriage, Naren meets vibrant and bubbly June Pinto (Shazahn) and can't stop himself from falling in love with this young girl.

Milind Kelkar (Omi) is a naive poet and idealistic lover. He develops a liking for an ambitious and practical Gunjan Sarkar (Shraddha) who is determined to follow her dreams.

But Abhay (Emraan), a charming casanova, is different. His mantra in life is money and women. But his life too takes a turn after an encounter with Nikki (Shruti), a modern girl who knows her needs and speaks her mind. He too experiences love, an emotion he had always stayed away from.

According to director Bhandarkar, the film is a funny take on love, with real-life relatable characters, and shows to what extent people would go to achieve it or avoid it.

Bhandarkar is known for making hard-hitting and realistic films like 'Chandni Bar', 'Fashion' and 'Jail' which garnered critical acclaim as well as box office success.

'Chandni Bar', starring Tabu and Atul Kulkarni, depicted hardships of women working in dance bars, while 'Fashion' explored the glamorous but dark world of modelling. The film starred Priyanka Chopra in the lead.

His last outing 'Jail' put the spotlight on cruel realities faced by prisoners in jail. Although the film didn't do well at the box-office, it was indeed applauded by critics.

With 'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji', Bhandarkar attempts to move away from serious cinema and take the audience on a laughter ride. However, the filmmaker is adamant that his stamp and signature style will be evident in the film.

Just like his director, Emraan, known for playing edgy roles in 'Murder', 'Gangster - A Love Story' and 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai', is trying comedy for the first time.

Omi has expectations riding high because this is his second release after blockbuster '3 Idiots' and the actor admits this has been a challenging role for him as he plays a Maharashtrian and he had to ensure that his accent is perfect.

Last year brought a mixed response for Ajay's films. While 'Golmaal 3' and 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai' and 'Raajneeti' were hits, his home production 'Toonpur Ka Superhero' and 'Aakrosh' failed to impress the audiences.

Ajay hopes to start the new year on a good note with 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji', which is the solo release this week.

Veena Malik: Nothing immoral in Big Boss House

Posted: 24 Jan 2011 02:57 AM PST

Veena Malik: Nothing immoral in Big Boss House: Pakistani actress Veena Malik, who was an inmate in season four of Indian TV reality show "Big Boss", has said there was nothing immoral about her relationship with Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel or any other member of the house."All criticism of my action is baseless, because it is being hurled without knowing the facts," Veena said in an interview with the Express TV Friday night.

"I belong to the entertainment industry and have not done anything that I have not done before," she said.

The actress said she was not representing Pakistan on the show but only the entertainment industry.

"I know my limits. I did not wear any revealing clothes or kissed Ashmit or any co-star in the show," she said. "I was there to promote love and a spirit of friendship and have no regrets in doing so."

Responding to a question about her physical intimacy with Ashmit Patel during the show, Veena denied having any such contact.

"I was as close to Ashmit as any other inmate of the house," she said.

"I performed namaz in the Big Boss house and even Ashmit prayed with me," she revealed, and also produced a video to prove her point.

Meanwhile, Ashmit Patel, speaking on the phone from Mumbai during the interview, said that he had prayed because he found the movements in namaz "very much like yoga".

"I don't believe in religion as such but have respect for all religions and keep collecting information about them," he said, adding that he found peace in performing namaz.

An Islamic cleric, Mufti Abdul Baqi, who also participated in the interview, said: "Veena had shamed all Pakistanis and Muslims with her immoral acts during the show."

"I want to tell her that she has not done justice to her talents by doing something which she can't watch while sitting with her brother or son in future," he said, asking her to mend her ways.

Veena burst into tears during the interview and said she confronted hostility from other participants like Shweta and Manoj, but the media never supported her.

"It is to my credit that I spent 84 days in the house against all odds," she argued.

Interview host Kamran Shahid concluded the show by saying that most of the Pakistani people think Veena should not have committed such acts, particularly because of the high sensitivity towards the neighbouring country.

Veena Malik had earlier courted controversy because of her alleged relationship with embattled fast bowler Mohammad Asif.

Ruskin Bond expanded his story for Priyanka's ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’

Posted: 23 Jan 2011 01:00 PM PST

Ruskin Bond expanded his story for Priyanka's 'Saat Khoon Maaf': Ruskin Bond, the grand old 'sahib' from Landour in Mussourie, has been bitten by the tinsel bug. The novelist will make his maiden foray on the big screen with a cameo in Vishal Bhardwaj's forthcoming 'Saat Khoon Maaf', based on his short story 'Susannah's Seven Husbands'.

'I am in the movie. I have told Vishal that I have got a movie part. Don't you dare cut me out,' Bond told IANS at the ongoing DSC Jaipur Literature Festival.

This is not Bond's first movie with filmmaker Bhardwaj. 'I had earlier collaborated with him in the 'Blue Umbrella' which was also based on my story. The story was recommended to Vishal by his wife. I could not work with Bhardwaj on that movie,' the 76-year-old author said.

Bond has been actively involved in scripting 'Saat Khoon Maaf', which stars Priyanka Chopra, unlike a previous screen adaptation of his short story 'The Flight of Pigeons' in 'Junoon', where he 'did not even meet the director'.

'Susannah… was originally a short story comprising a few odd pages. When Vishal decided to turn it into a movie, I expanded the story into an 80-page novella and then began to think in terms of scenes. It became an actual script – a 200-page full-length Hindi script,' Bond said.

Bond appears in the movie with Priyanka Chopra, who kills 'each of her seven husbands'.

'I had to devise regional (Indian) ways of killing the husbands,' Bond said.

The author believes that movies do justice to literature.

'I was a great movie-goer as a boy. I had watched some great movies adapted from Charles Dickens' classics like 'David Copperfield', 'Great Expectations', 'Oliver Twist' and 'Christmas Carol'. His classics lend themselves to brilliant visual adaptations on screen. Stories by writers like Somerset Maugham and Daphne du Maurier were also made into movies,' Bond said.

'My own writing has been influenced by the fact that I went to see the movies and I always thought in terms of visuals,' he said.

Bond said his 'fondness for short story as a preferred writing format dates back to his early youth'. 'One of the reasons why I like writing stories is because when I started writing I had to make a living out of it. Novels could take up to a year,' he said.

Bond said the sense of perpetual wonder that marked his stories was because he didn't grow up.

The novelist, who believes in the importance of the oral tradition of story-telling feels that laptops have changed the way children look at stories. 'They read great stories on the internet. Fantasy has a great appeal today and technology has made inroads into stories,' he said.

According to Bond, whose books are also steeped in fantasy, 'the Harry Potter novels had been brilliantly executed and highly successful'.

'Potter has proved children's books can outsell adult books and become bestsellers,' he said.

Born in 1934, the iconic writer of British origin was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1999 for his contribution to children's literature. He is famous for novellas and short stories like the 'Room on the Roof', 'Night Train at Deoli', 'Time Stops at Shamli', 'Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra', and 'Flight of the Pigeons'.

But what is the master storyteller's favourite story? Pat comes his reply: 'Often at night, I am restless and my blanket slips off. An unseen benign hand puts the blanket back on me. It is a very motherly ghost.'

This is a ghost story that Ruskin Bond has never got around to writing. It is his friendly guardian spirit.
